Where to stay in Sicily? During our road trip through Eastern Sicily, we discovered several hotels and agriturismos. In this blog, I share our honest reviews of these accommodations so you can find the perfect place to stay.
We are not extreme budget travelers, but we do love affordable luxury. That’s why we often choose a great location with comfort and a beautiful view. We took this trip in June 2023, so keep in mind that prices and availability may change.
Siracusa/Ortigia
B&B Nike – Rooms Only
Price paid per night at the time: €74.00
Superior double room with balcony and sea view
For the first part of our road trip through Eastern Sicily, we stayed in Siracusa. At B&B Nike, we had a beautiful, clean, and spacious room. The location was ideal: within a short walking distance of Ortigia yet in an area where street parking was easy, although we did have to drive around a bit (tip: rent a small car!). The B&B didn’t offer breakfast or extra facilities, but given the prime location, that wasn’t necessary at all.
Etna (Viagrande)
Casale Poggio del Tiglio
Price paid per night at the time: €75,00
Small double room
We stayed for three nights at Casale Poggio Del Tiglio, a charming agriturismo at the foot of Mount Etna. From this accommodation, we climbed up Etna and went on a horseback riding tour along its slopes. The property itself is beautiful, featuring a cozy house, a spacious garden, and a lovely swimming pool.
At first, we enjoyed the presence of six friendly dogs, but their constant barking at night became a bit disruptive. Additionally, the number of house rules made the stay feel less authentic than we had hoped. The beds were incredibly hard, probably the most uncomfortable ones we’ve ever slept on during our travels (though this might be different in other rooms). On the bright side, the host and hostess were very friendly and provided excellent tips for exploring the area.
Taormina
Jonic Hotel Mazzarò
Price paid per night at the time:€145,00
Double room with balcony and sea view
We stayed for two nights at Jonic Hotel Mazzarò in Taormina, a stunning hotel with a breathtaking sea view. The location is ideal: almost directly on the beach, though you have to cross a busy road, and close to the cable car that takes you to the center of Taormina. The room was comfortable and simply furnished, and the breakfast featured a typical Italian selection with plenty of sweets and fewer savory options. Despite the parking challenges in Taormina, the fantastic location definitely made the stay worthwhile.
Hopefully, this blog has helped you get a better idea of where to stay in Eastern Sicily. From a charming agriturismo to hotels, there is a perfect option for everyone. Hopefully, you’ll soon enjoy this beautiful island as well!
