Where is Fuji-Q Highland and how do you get there?

Fuji-Q Highland is located in Fujiyoshida, at the base of the iconic Mount Fuji. It’s a perfect day trip from Tokyo, but if you really want to make the most of your visit (or if you need to rest after all those roller coasters), staying nearby is a great idea.

How to get to Fuji-Q Highland:

From Tokyo:
🚆 By train: Take the JR Chuo Line from Tokyo (Shinjuku Station) to Otsuki Station, then transfer to the Fujikyu Railway to Fuji-Q Highland Station. The entire journey takes about 2 hours.
🚌 By bus: Direct buses run from Shinjuku, Tokyo Station, and Shibuya to Fuji-Q Highland. The journey takes about 1.5 to 2 hours, depending on traffic.
🚗 By car: Fuji-Q has a large parking lot and is located near the highway, making it convenient if you’re traveling with a rental car!

From Kobe/Kyoto: Take the train to Mishima Station. From there, transfer to the bus to Fuji-Q Highland. Be sure to book your bus in advance, as the buses were very crowded when we were there!

Our experience: Staying at HOTEL MYSTAYS Fuji Onsen Resort 🏨♨️

We stayed at HOTEL MYSTAYS Fuji Onsen Resort, which is highly recommended if you’re visiting Fuji-Q Highland Park. The hotel is within walking distance of the amusement park, so you can get there early in the morning without the hassle of buses or trains.

And the best part? After a day full of roller coasters, you can relax in their onsen (Japanese hot spring) with a view of Mount Fuji (see our view in the photo below!).

How do the tickets for Fuji-Q Highland work?

At Fuji-Q Highland, you can choose between purchasing individual tickets for each attraction or a Free Pass, which grants unlimited access to almost all attractions. Let’s take a look at when the Free Pass is the more cost-effective option.

• Free Pass (1-day): ¥6,900 for adults, ¥6,400 for teenagers (12–17 years), ¥4,600 for children (6–11 years)..
• Popular Attractions:
  • Fujiyama, Takabisha, Eejanaika, Zokkon, Attack on Titan THE RIDE: ¥2.000 per rit .

If you plan to visit multiple top attractions, you can calculate the costs as follows:

• Adult:
  • 1 attraction: ¥2.000

Conclusion:

If you plan to visit 3 or more top attractions, the Free Pass is the better financial choice. It allows you to enjoy almost all attractions unlimitedly without worrying about additional costs.

Queues and Opening Hours: What You Need to Know Before Visiting Fuji-Q Highland

Fuji-Q is known for long wait times, especially on busy days. We visited during the week, and while the park wasn’t particularly crowded, the queues for roller coasters were still quite long due to the park’s strict safety precautions and frequent safety checks. However, you can purchase a Priority Pass for certain attractions, allowing you to skip the long lines. These passes are quite expensive, but we bought one to ensure we could experience all the roller coasters in a single day—otherwise, we would have run out of time.

Opening Hours: Plan Your Day Carefully

The opening hours of Fuji-Q Highland Park vary by day and season. Generally, the park is open from 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM, but during peak seasons and holidays, hours may be extended. It is essential to check the official website for the most up-to-date opening times and any changes. Additionally, some attractions may close earlier than the park itself, so be sure to verify this in advance to avoid disappointment. During our visit, we missed a few attractions because they closed earlier than expected.

Roller Coasters You Must Try (If You Dare!)

Let’s be honest: you come to Fuji-Q for the roller coasters (and the haunted house!). Here are the top attractions you absolutely cannot miss:

• 🌀 Eejanaika – A 4D coaster where not only the track but also your seat rotates. You never know which direction you’re going, making it even wilder! We found this to be one of the most fun roller coasters we’ve ever been on!
• 🚀 Do-Dodonpa – The fastest acceleration in the world: from 0 to 180 km/h in less than 2 seconds. Prepare for take-off!
• 🎢 Takabisha The steepest roller coaster in the world with a 121-degree drop. Yes, that’s a backward tilt! (see banner photo)
• 🔥 Fujiyama – Once the tallest roller coaster in the world, and still an absolute classic with an incredible view of Mount Fuji.

Do you dare take on the haunted house? 👻

Fuji-Q doesn’t just have roller coasters, but also one of the scariest haunted houses in the world: The Haunted Hospital. This is not your typical haunted house where you walk through in five minutes. No, this is a 50-minute long (!) horror experience where you wander through an abandoned hospital, never knowing what awaits you around the corner. Not for the faint of heart!
We found it a bit similar to a Walibi Fright Night house (the Netherlands), but much longer. The actors were really amazing, and you walk through the haunted house with your own group of 2-4 people.
Just a heads-up! Make sure to reserve a time slot when you enter the park, as the haunted house is very popular and fills up quickly!

What else is there to do?

If you want to take a break from all the screaming, Fuji-Q also has other fun things to offer:

• Children’s attractions & family-friendly rides – For those who want to take it a bit slower.
• Thomas Land – A whole area for fans of Thomas the Tank Engine (yes, really).
• Super fun dining spots – From Japanese ramen to giant crepes with whipped cream and fruit.
• Souvenir shops – Here you can grab unique Fuji-Q merch, such as roller coaster T-shirts and cute Mount Fuji plushies.
