Noto, located in the southeast of Sicily, is one of Italy’s most beautiful Baroque cities, renowned for its impressive architecture and charming streets. This UNESCO World Heritage city is the perfect destination for a day trip. In this blog, you will discover the most iconic attractions in Noto and get a glimpse of a perfect day trip.
We took a day trip to Noto from Siracusa, where we stayed for a few days during our road trip through Sicily. See also: Road Trip Eastern Sicily: 1 Week Along Beaches, Cities, and Mount Etna.
Noto is often visited as a day trip, especially by travelers staying in cities like Siracusa, Ragusa, or Catania. The city is relatively small, and most of its highlights, such as the Cattedrale di San Nicolò, Palazzo Ducezio, and Porta Reale, are close to each other, allowing you to see a lot in just a few hours.
How many days do I recommend for Noto?
- 1 day: Perfect if you want to see the main attractions, enjoy lunch on a lively square, and soak up the atmosphere. This is the most common option.
- 2 days: Ideal if you also want to explore the surroundings, such as the Riserva Naturale di Vendicari (a nature reserve with beaches and flamingos) or Marzamemi, a charming fishing village nearby.
- 3 days or more: Recommended only if you plan to use Noto as a base to explore the entire Val di Noto region, including cities like Modica, Ragusa, and Scicli.
In short, for most travelers, one full day is enough to experience Noto properly! If you prefer a more relaxed pace and want to explore the surroundings, two days are a great choice.

Directly opposite the cathedral stands the elegant Palazzo Ducezio, which now serves as Noto’s town hall. This building features a stunning Baroque façade and a mirrored hall, where you can admire its lavish decorations. From the balcony, you can enjoy a beautiful view of the Cattedrale di San Nicolò and Piazza Municipio.
3. Chiesa di San Francesco d’Assisi all’Immacolata
The San Francesco Church is perched on a small hill, offering an impressive view over the city. The wide staircase leading to the entrance makes it one of the most photogenic spots in Noto. Inside, you can admire religious artworks.

The Porta Reale is the gateway to Noto’s historic center. This neoclassical structure was built in the 19th century and welcomes visitors with an imposing arch. This is where your walk through the city begins, immediately immersing you in Noto’s unique atmosphere.

A hidden gem in Noto is the Teatro Tina Di Lorenzo, a beautiful theater that is still in use today. This small yet impressive venue features a classic Italian interior with red velvet seats and an elegantly decorated ceiling.
